I think that according to IBAN definition the following regular expression may be better:
/^((IT|it)[ ][0-9]{2}[ ][a-zA-Z][ ][0-9]{5}[ ][0-9]{5}[ ][0-9a-zA-z]{12})|((IT|it)[0-9]{2}[a-zA-Z][0-9]{5}[0-9]{5}[0-9a-zA-z]{12})$/
matches IT 12 L 12345 12345 123456789012 or IT12L1234512345123456789012 (both case insensitive)
